Facial Recognition: Independent Study 2023 shows non-bias positive results

NEC New Zealand supports the ethical use of biometrics for business, society and the greater good.

We are pleased to share this independent research undertaken over 2022 and 2023, studying the ethical use of Facial Recognition technology.

Findings show that bias is statistically insignificant when the industry standard system settings are applied
– demonstrating that biometrics can be safe, secure and non-biased.

We encourage you to explore this resource to gain a deeper understanding of the evolving capacity and potential of facial recognition, and biometrics.

While we recognise and acknowledge that there are concerns regarding the misuse of technology, we again want to emphasize that NEC are dedicated to the ethical use of our technologies, and the greater good.

For example, working with Gavi and Simprints NEC deployed biometrics for the world’s first scalable child identification solution to boost immunisation in developing countries. https://www.nec.co.nz/market-leadership/case-studies/gavi-nec-and-simprints/
